Just attended a two day workshop working with willow to create a lovely basket. I am a member of the Basketmakers of Victoria that arranged for Jed Gillian from Tasmania to run the workshop; Jed has been making willow baskets for many years. I hadn’t realised that there were so many different varities of willow and the seasonality of harvesting the willow “rods”. To make a typical basket requires 73-130 rods. An enjoyable two days.
