Vancouver visit: March 2017

Just back from eight days catching up with friends in Vancouver; a lovely time full of conversations, delicious food and wonderful events. Bill and Bonnie have moved to Saltspring Island and Grace arrange a float plan trip for an overnight stay; two days of sightseeing and Bill’s great cooking. The island has many artists and craftspeople; bought a small bowl made from the wood of an Arbutus tree. Back on the mainland to an exhibition by Susan Point, a Coast Salish artist from Musqueam: Susan Point: Spindle Whorl surveys her entire career through more than a hundred artworks that take the spindle whorl as their starting point. A great exhibition. On Friday night went with Grace to the awards night at Douglas College. After Maurice died, Grace set up an annual award to be given to a student in the creative writing department to further their studies. A very moving night with readings by ten students prior to the award ceremony.

A short trip but full of enjoyable experiences.
