Jess has always been a spinner and weaver; still going strong at age 90. When l first visited her house l was fascinated by her selection of looms and spinning wheels but especially by her up-right rug loom - she used to make such wonderful floor rugs.
About 10 years ago Jess helped me find and buy the loom pictured below. I’ve been slow to start weaving but with Jess’s help and guidance l’ve produced my first rug (3’ x 5’) which l gave to my daughter and son-in-law for Christmas. Jess has also given me a spinning wheel, fleeces and lots of yarn and one spinning lesson. I have a lot to learn.
Ages ago l can vaguely remember my mother weaving cloth on a table loom to cover lounge room chairs. I was allowed to weave a scarf; from memory it was a yellow and black pattern. Funny how all those childhood activities resurface as an adult.
