I've been trying to think of why l carry out the activities outlined under this section. I think the past plays a part here - as a child helping my father with his wood working projects; watching my mother weave; helping my father build a canoe [l don't remember it ever being finished] - as do other imprints made through my life - living in Vancouver and connecting with the First Nation People's use of cedar; observing Jess's rug weaving; enjoying Bill's cooking skills; camping with my family; bushwalking adventures here and overseas with my son. Perhaps also there's the restlessness, the need to be active and productive. It's hard for me to sit still, a skill l still struggle to master. And at play l suppose has been the development, partially through the world view of my partner, of a social conscience for others and the environment.
I enjoy the activities listed here and continue to develop the skills required to achieve a worthwhile result, although l do resonate with the Japanese aesthetic wabi sabi:
nothing is perfect
nothing is finished
nothing lasts
